Our Farm: Rob and Dianne's Story

Updated: Apr 8, 2019

Rob was raised in Salmon Arm, British Columbia where he helped his family develop a Cherry Orchard and he spent a couple summers working for a local Apple orchard. After high school Rob attended university and received his Bachelor of Science and Agriculture and then a Master of Science from the University of Guelph. Rob moved to Alberta to work at Olds Agricultural College as an instructor in the Horticultural Department. He met Dianne who was also working at Olds College and they married in 1991. Rob always wanted to farm from the time he was a teenager so he and Dianne decided to move to Ontario to buy a farm and develop an orchard.

Rob and Dianne spend several years working on their farm and raising their family. During this time they grew every vegetable and fruit that you can imagine. They put their focus into strawberries, apples, raspberries and elderberries but as time went on and Ontario fruit prices plummeted they decided to put their time and energy into establishing an apple orchard and it is still thriving ! Son Steven and his wife Chelsey have moved back to the farm after completing their own education and are learning the farming ropes.

Our 2018 season was busy doing some big projects. We developed a high density trellis system on a new piece of land which was planted with 24 new acres of apple trees and transformed our ginseng washing room into a food grade cider pressing facility as well as doing our daily farming practice. 2019 is going to be full of new projects as well !
